Artway is a specialist independent organisation based in The UK that offers bespoke tutorial solutions to support international students with their preparation for study on higher education creative arts courses in The UK.

Artway recognises that academic qualifications are only part of what is necessary for university study and our ultimate aim is to offer a confidence boosting learning experience that fully prepares international students for the challenges of degree study in The UK. We believe that individual one to one tuition is a highly effective method of increasing a person’s self-esteem and allows our prospective international students to receive the exact support they need to reach their full potential.

Artway Tutors

Graham Hulme

Graham is an enthusiastic and motivated visual arts lecturer. He has experience in developing courses for Higher Education and understands the skills required to enter university.

His proficiency is wide ranging covering subjects such as philosophy and critical theory in aesthetics, historical and contextual studies in dissertation supervision, project development, and digital imagery practice.

It is his conviction that every student can succeed and he has a belief that students will achieve their personal goals through motivated personal, 1-1 support. Graham has a B.A degree in Photography, Film and TV from Westminster University and a Master of Arts in Critical Theory from Brighton University – 2008 and he holds a professional teaching qualification.

Kathy Kohl

Kathy has been teaching English to international students for over 30 years in Portugal, Italy and the UK including English courses for Art students at Bellerbys College in Brighton and preparation classes for the Academic English test IELTS. She has also worked as an examiner for IELTS and other Cambridge English exams.

Since doing an MA in TEFL materials design in 1997, she has written educational materials for local art galleries and nowadays has a passion for recycling, upcycling, and contributing to Climate Change campaigns (mural painting and making flags, prints and banners).

Her philosophy is to ‘teach the student, not the subject’, as every student has different unique interests, needs and strengths.

She says “It’s a privilege and joy to help students on their creative journey to studying their chosen course at a UK university. I do look forward to working with you.”

Wendy Pye

Wendy is Artway’s founder and director.  She’s an experienced arts educator and practicing visual artist. She has over 12 years of teaching experience and has taught across various levels. Since 2010, she worked for Study Group International, teaching international students on the foundation preparation and pathway programs for B.A and M.A arts courses in The UK.


Wendy primarily teaches photography and digital media. She also has many years of experience successfully supporting and advising 100’s of international students with their creative educational pathways, UCAS applications, portfolio preparation and preparing students for Higher Education course interviews.


Wendy has a B.A degree in Photography, Film and TV from Westminster University and a Masters in Photographic Arts from the University of the Arts London – 2009

Dagmara Rudkin

Dagmara Rudkin is an Art Educator and practicing Visual Artist. She has experienced Art Education in The UK from both sides – as an art tutor and an international student. She has taught international students in Arts Further Education for over 20 years working for Study Group International.

Dagmara enjoys designing and delivering projects for a range of Art and Design pathways and supports her students through all stages of their project briefs: From ideas development, helping with building their creative skills – including traditional and experimental drawing, painting, illustration, textile and 3D work through  to the production of final work. She has also successfully supported international students across all the creative pathways applying to BA courses in the UK, helping them with their portfolio selection and production.

Dagmara also works as a visiting lecturer delivering online Visual Literacy seminars to BA and MA students in international universities. Dagmara holds a B.A degree in Glass and Fine Art and MA (Distinction) in Sequential Design from Brighton University and holds a professional teaching qualification.

Julian Villarubi

Julian is a renowned practicing painter as well as an experienced arts lecturer. He has over twenty years of teaching experience working with students of all ages and educational levels.

Julian’s specialist area is in Fine Art with an emphasis on the development of ideas and techniques in drawing and painting. His painting practice is supported by working digitally, using Procreate software and his first book ‘Life Drawing on the IPad’ was published by Crowood Press in June 2018. He also has a keen interest in the history of art and contextual studies.

He has supported international students across all the creative pathways applying to BA courses in The UK, helping them with their portfolio production, selection, presentation, UCAS application forms and interview techniques.

Julian has a first-class B.A degree in Fine Art (Painting) from Newcastle University and then gained a postgraduate diploma in painting at the Royal Academy Schools in London. He has won a series of awards, that include The Painter-Stainers Award.

Katie Flack

Katie Flack has worked as an individual private piano tutor for thirty years, teaching a range of students from beginners to A level students.


She prides herself on her creative teaching and ability to intuitively meet the student’s needs at their level, in order to help them achieve their musical aspirations.

Whilst studying for her music degree at Cambridge, she performed as part of the Cambridge University choir and eveningsong at Sidney Sussex college. Katie is also a professional singer with a specialism in Tudor/Renaissance music and she has formed a six-part madrigal choir that performs regularly. Katie has played live piano in various public venues and on BBC Radio 4.


After graduating from her BA Music Course, she undertook a PGSE teaching certificate at Sussex University and taught piano privately and at weekends alongside working for Brighton Music School as a theory tutor and she was the lead conductor of their junior choir. She has also gained a piano teaching qualification, CT(ABRSM) and undertook a Music Therapy Foundation Course at Roehampton University.

Mira Watson

Mira is a Jewellery / Fashion Design and Academic English Tutor. She has 30 years of teaching experience in private tutoring at school and university levels.

She loves relating across cultures and finding simple, fun ways to explain things so people can understand. Whether this is explaining English grammar and pronunciation though TEFL principles or digging out where a student’s real creative interests lie.

She brings out a person’s unique talents and inspires them to explore and grow creatively. She has helped hundreds of students find their self-confidence and move forwards in their personal and academic lives to become strong, well-rounded individuals.

Mira has a B.A degree and MSc in Anthropology and Development from Cambridge University and a B.A degree in Jewellery and Fashion Design from Central St Martins, London.
